Before Anaesthesia
Before Day Case General Anaesthesia
- You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the appointment.
- No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- Please have a shower or bath prior to admission
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following general anaesthesia. Patients must be escorted home when discharged after day surgery. The person collecting the patient should telephone 066-7149800 ext. 247 to arrange a time for collection.
- Contact lenses and jewellery must be removed at the time of surgery.
- Please do not wear lipstick makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- Please bring a nightdress or pyjamas but leave valuables such as jewellery and large sums of money at home.
- If you develop an illness near your surgery date such as a cold, influenza, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the practice on 066-7149842
- If you have medical insurance eg VHI, BUPA/Quinn Healthcare, Garda Medical,or ESB medical fund, please bring an uptodate membership number
